If this council has any decency left, they will return the Canadian flag to its appropriate location. This is disrespectful to all Canadians. Why does there need to be a pride flag flown at all?

Firstly, Linda, the decision to replace the Canadian flag was not made by the Pride committee, but by the municipality, in error. It was always assumed it would fly in conjunction with the Canadian flag. Secondly, I am sure that me or anyone else should not have to explain why there is any reason for a Pride flag. Members of the community are

LGBTQ+, and given the sacrifices they have had to make in the past just to be able to live their truth, they have the month oh June to celebrate…not just locally by nationally. That was paid for with blood, sweat, and tears. And it hurts nobody.

Hi Bill. I just want to correct your statement.

The resolution was specific in requesting that the “Canadian flags be removed”. Also the resolutions were presented by the pride committee.

So I’m not sure how you determined that it was assumed that the flags would fly in conjunction.

There are not multiple flag poles at the 5 locations.

I based it on my conversations with the Pride members, who all said that was definitely not the intent.

Thanks. Then perhaps it was due to miscommunication within the pride committee as they presented a pretty clear request. It’s not fair to blame municipal staff.

Let me be clear, Rejean. The Pride committee never would intend to replace the Canadian flag. NEVER. if that’s what happened, it’s going to either be corrected based on the aforementioned regulations, or will be voted against. Either way, all the committee wanted was to raise the Pride flag. The only reason this is still an issue is that some are not either aware of this, or if they are, want a controversy. Certainly the Pride committee does not want that. Love is love.

Again, I’ll just repost the wording of the resolution submitted by the committee

“West Nipissing Pride Committee is requesting Council’s approval to allow the removal of the Canadian flag in order to fly the pride flag…

River Valley Welcome flag

• Field Municipal Building (former Library)

• Verner Municipal Building (corner of Principale and Hwy 64)

• North Monville Community CENTRE/Fire Hall

• Cache Bay Community Centre

I don’t think anyone ever objected to raising the pride flag as this committee has done for several years at a designated spot.

The objection is the additional five flags replacing current Canadian flags.

Talk about your sacrifices..... did you give your LIVES as our veterans did? I really do not care who does what as consenting adults but I refuse to think you are "special". WHINE A LOT ! You are no different than me and to want preferential treatment is wrong!

I mean, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. It’s one of the many things our veterans fought for. Including the right to inclusion and not be beaten or killed just because you’re queer. If you have never had to conceal your truth because you feared for your life, well, that’s privilege for you. However, this is not the case for many. Nobody is asking to take away from our veterans. If you actually checked, veterans do get their celebrations as well. Our country, believe it or not, CAN walk and chew gum at the same time. We can celebrate many things at the same time.

We have many friends within your "group" and have always valued our differences and never have sny of them been the target of physical abuse. You are creating a conflict by taking away our Canadian flag. Never in my life have I felt degativity before but now......killed here in Canada because of being queer??? Feared for your life??

My ‘group’? You mean the human beings who also happen to be Canadian citizens? They did not want to take away any flag, so stop making something from nothing. As for being killed for being queer, if you care to check this out, sadly, it is very true. All they want is celebrate their reality, and if that hurts you, you have a pretty big problem. If you have something positive or constructive to say, I am all ears. If not, then I wish you peace.

Hi Bill. Once again, as I noted above, the committee requested that "the Canadian flags be removed".

I don't want to debate your other points but I just want to make sure you have the correct facts.

You seem to be getting upset about things that have not been said or done. I don't think anyone locally has objected to anyone's way of living or treated people differently for their sexual preferences. They are objecting to the request to remove the Canadian flags.

I just do not have knowledge of those events you claim. Your sexual choices are fine by me.....I respect your choices. I just do not see that we need to celebrate you. On a personal note I have been faithful to one man for over 60 years. Does that count for a celebration??

Dear Bill. I'm very pleased that the elected representatives of our wilderness region have decided to review their decision to go ahead with prides request. Despite the fact that you sound very angry, you should be able to come to the reasonable conclusion that 🇨🇦 stands for Us All. We are All the plus ➕️ your group has, or should consider to have, included in the ever lengthening acronym because one person or another was angry & demanded inclusion on the acronym.

No matter which group of people has been inadvertently or purposefully neglected in this wide world of Every Man For Himself/Herself/Itself/Theirself/Plus+, you, of all people, should understand the pain caused to Anyone who is left out, and the pain is caused by Self-seeking over Others.

Let's see what council decides.

Personally, I think the idea of having a second Flag pole might be the second best idea as there is an ever increasing number of Self-interest Groups that could be rotated throughout the year. The fairest & cheapest idea would be to only fly the Canadian flag. 🇨🇦

Just my thoughts.

Well, I need to make it clear that I am not at all angry. I want the Canadian flag up. My issue is that many are making this an issue to bash the Pride committee or council. This was an honest error. Nobody intended for the Canadian flag to be marginalized. Have a great day.

I don't think the flag is appropriate, we are all Canadians, why would they have a flag??? the Canadian flag represents all of us, as one!! This is so sad!!!!!!!!

Our CANADIAN flag includes all. It is our heritage. The "Pride " flag is only for some of us. Many of us are excluded. How can you allow OUR NATIONAL FLAG to be taken down? I feel for the veterans who gave their lives for OUR SOVEREIGN nation! THIS IS BEYOND WRONG!!

I certainly hope they do the right thing & vote to re-instate the Canadian flags! Taking them down was very disrespectful. If any flag is to be flown it deserves it’s own pole! This whole issue has been blown out of proportion & the Pride Community has suffered from council’s negligence! Fly any flag you wish to honor, but leave the Canadian Flag flying high where it belongs!! 🇨🇦 🏳️‍🌈

Our Canadian flag should never be removed for any reason,I have no issue with the pride flag being flown along side with the Canadian flag, why is the removal of our Canadian flag even being considered???
