Local 11-Year Old Publishes First Book
The first book in Emma Lewington's "Stella and Crystal" series is now available on Amazon.
This week, Emma Lewington of Lavigne launched her first novel. I had the chance to pre-read the book and found it both interesting and incredibly impressive. Emma began writing this book when she was only 10-years old but her writing skills give the readers the impression they are enjoying the work a career novelist.
Her first book, titled Stella & Crystal tells the story of protagonist Stella Pristellos and her horse Crystal who embark on a journey of saving other animals in need.
Emma who is in grade six has been homeschooled since grade three. She follows the world-renowned Ron Paul curriculum which tests students beyond most public school programs. But her courses are self-taught which allows Emma the flexibility to manage her own time and allowed her to do what most people couldn’t in a lifetime; write a book… She shared with me that writing this story was just a hobby at the beginning. “It was just something to do in my free time to exercise my creativity. It was really just a random idea, but then I was told I could actually publish it. So I started to devote more time to it.” The entire endeavour took Emma a full year.
Beyond her impressive writing skills, what struck me the most is the dedication and discipline that Lewington needed to follow through on this project. Her mother Chantal shared with me that, “Although we helped her here and there, this was her project…”
Emma acknowledged to me that keeping the motivation to write more chapters near the end was the most challenging part. “That was because I wanted to make sure they were at a quality that I could sell to the public”. Her book is off to a great start. It was among the top 20 among thriller and suspense novels on Amazon earlier this week.
And this is just the beginning. Emma has already started working on a sequel. Another adventure for the horse-human duo.
Stella & Crystal is available in paperback on Amazon for only $9.99.

The home schooling with a good study guide or outline is key. This should motivate many more to get their kids out of this Prussian school system and give them space and motivation for independent thinking and work. Only one thing missing. No doubt the Ron Paul course outlines are good. But the one thing they won't have is anything about Canadian history or even geography. If we want to see generations to come who are Canadians and proud of it, not just Trudeau's "post nationals" or American lite, we need to look at this.
