At this week’s council meeting, the public was made aware that the Cache Bay Trailer Park has officially sold.
The trailer park which is owned and operated by the municipality was put up for sale earlier this year due to rising costs of maintaining and operating the park for seasonal campers.
The asking price for the 8.5 acre shoreline property was $600,000. But the highest bid netted the city $761,000. The closing date for the sale is December 15th. Deputy Mayor, Jamie Restoule said this “good news for sure, being over what the reserve was”.
The $761,000 added to the municipal coffers will be welcome news for ratepayers who saw their taxes go up 5% last year and 21% over the last 5 years.
On top of the significant windfall which represents over 4% of West Nipissing’s 2023 tax revenue, the town will also significantly save on human resources. When council discussed the topic earlier this year, it was disclosed that it costs the city approximately $89,000 per year to maintain these facilities.
Multiple groups were seeking financial support this week and this news will likely help their case. As I reported, No More Tears West Nipissing was asking for financial help to address the homeless crisis. The West Nipissing Pickleball club also asked for financial assistance for a new court at the municipal beach. Finally, CANO (Conseil des Arts de Nipissing Ouest) requested a $25,000 contribution to help them operate.
